Polymer Characterization Facility

Image Two people work in the Polymer Characterization Facility.

This facility is equipped with thermal and mechanical analysis instrumentation to determine the physical properties of polymeric materials. Testing includes determination of glass transition and melting temperatures, thermal decomposition temperature, modulus (Young’s, storage, loss, shear), viscosity and viscoelastic properties, and coefficient of thermal expansion. The laboratory has a dual role as an instructional lab for the Knight Campus Graduate Internship Program (KCGIP) Polymer Science Program as well as academic and corporate user facility through CAMCOR.

Instruments

  • Differential Scanning Calorimeter (DSC)
  • Dynamic Mechanical Analyzer (DMA)
  • Thermogravimetric Analyzer (TGA)
  • Thermal Mechanical Analyzer (TMA)
  • Rheometers
  • Universal Materials Testing
